On February 16, 2021, Youth Regain Life organization established a remarkable project aimed at teaching the children of the St. Therese Orphanage in Yaoundé about gender rules. This visit not only made a significant impact on the lives of these children but also provided them with valuable information and tools to challenge societal norms.

The visit to the St. Therese Orphanage had a profound impact on the children, as they were introduced to the concept of gender rules and encouraged to question them. Through interactive workshops, discussions, and activities, the children gained a deeper understanding of gender equality and the importance of breaking stereotypes.

This initiative helped them envision a future where opportunities are not limited by gender, encouraging them to challenge societal norms and pursue their dreams with confidence.

During the project, we archived significant success, showcasing the positive influence it had on the children’s lives. One notable success story is that of Marie, a 12-year-old girl who initially believed she couldn’t pursue her passion for science because it was regarded a “boy’s subject.”

However, after participating in the workshops and hearing encouraging stories of women scientists, Marie’s perspective changed. She now aspires to become a renowned scientist and is determined to break barriers that hinder girls from pursuing their interests.

Another milestone achievement was the creation of a safe space for open discussions about gender-related issues. The children learned to express their opinions, share personal experiences, and support one another in breaking free from societal expectations.

This safe environment fostered empathy, understanding, and respect among the children, forming a solid foundation for gender equality within the orphanage.The visit to the St. Therese Orphanage was just the beginning of a much-needed movement towards challenging gender rules and empowering children to reach their full potential.
